Common Name | PGP(16:0/22:5(4Z,7Z,10Z,13Z,16Z)) |
---|
Description | PGP(16:0/22:5(4Z,7Z,10Z,13Z,16Z)), also known as PGP(16:0/22:5) Or PGP(38:5), Belongs to the class of organic compounds known as phosphatidylglycerophosphates. These are glycerophosphoglycerophosphates in which two fatty acids are bonded to the 1-glycerol moiety through ester linkages. PGP(16:0/22:5(4Z,7Z,10Z,13Z,16Z)) is an extremely weak basic (essentially neutral) compound (based on its pKa). It is a glycerophospholipid in which a phosphoglycerol moiety occupies a glycerol substitution site followed by another phosphate moiety. Phosphatidylglycerol is formed from phosphatidic acid by a sequence of enzymatic reactions that proceeds via the intermediate, cytidine diphosphate diacylglycerol (CDP-diacylglycerol). The palmitic acid moiety is derived from fish oils, milk fats, vegetable oils and animal fats, while the docosapentaenoic acid moiety is derived from animal fats and brain. Finally, phosphatidylglycerol is formed by the action of specific phosphatases. |
