Common Name4-aminobenzoate
Description4-Aminobenzoate belongs to the class of organic compounds known as aminobenzoic acids. These are benzoic acids containing an amine group attached to the benzene moiety. An aromatic amino-acid anion that is the conjugate base of 4-aminobenzoic acid. 4-Aminobenzoate is a moderately basic compound (based on its pKa). 4-Aminobenzoate may be a unique S. Cerevisiae (yeast) metabolite. In humans, 4-aminobenzoate is involved in procaine action pathway. Outside of the human body, 4-aminobenzoate has been detected, but not quantified in, several different foods, such as greenthread tea, green vegetables, malabar spinachs, swamp cabbages, and common chokecherries. This could make 4-aminobenzoate a potential biomarker for the consumption of these foods.
