Common NameMethyl (xi)-3-nonenoate
DescriptionMethyl (xi)-3-nonenoate, also known as fema 3710 or methyl non-3-enoate, belongs to the class of organic compounds known as fatty acid methyl esters. Fatty acid methyl esters are compounds containing a fatty acid that is esterified with a methyl group. They have the general structure RC(=O)OR', where R=fatty aliphatic tail or organyl group and R'=methyl group. Methyl (xi)-3-nonenoate is an extremely weak basic (essentially neutral) compound (based on its pKa). Methyl (xi)-3-nonenoate is a fruity, green, and melon tasting compound. Outside of the human body, Methyl (xi)-3-nonenoate has been detected, but not quantified in, fruits. This could make methyl (XI)-3-nonenoate a potential biomarker for the consumption of these foods.
