Common Name(Z)-13-Hexadecenoic acid
Description(Z)-13-Hexadecenoic acid, also known as (Z)-13-hexadecenoate, belongs to the class of organic compounds known as long-chain fatty acids. These are fatty acids with an aliphatic tail that contains between 13 and 21 carbon atoms (Z)-13-Hexadecenoic acid is a very hydrophobic molecule, practically insoluble (in water), and relatively neutral. Outside of the human body, (Z)-13-Hexadecenoic acid has been detected, but not quantified in, fishes. It was first documented in 2000 (PMID: 11413487). This could make (Z)-13-hexadecenoic acid a potential biomarker for the consumption of these foods (PMID: 16902246) (PMID: 17374880) (PMID: 20044567).
