Common Nameselenide
DescriptionSelenium, also known as se(2-), belongs to the class of inorganic compounds known as homogeneous other non-metal compounds. These are inorganic non-metallic compounds in which the largest atom belongs to the class of 'other non-metals'. Selenium is possibly neutral. In humans, selenium is involved in selenoamino acid metabolism. Outside of the human body, Selenium has been detected, but not quantified in, several different foods, such as maitakes, sunburst squash (pattypan squash), pomes, japanese chestnuts, and oyster mushrooms. This could make selenium a potential biomarker for the consumption of these foods.
