Common Namep-Octopamine
DescriptionP-Octopamine, also known as norsympathol or analet, belongs to the class of organic compounds known as 1-hydroxy-2-unsubstituted benzenoids. These are phenols that are unsubstituted at the 2-position. P-Octopamine is a very strong basic compound (based on its pKa). Outside of the human body, p-Octopamine has been detected, but not quantified in, several different foods, such as mollusks, green vegetables, citrus, root vegetables, and herbs and spices. p-Octopamine was first documented in 2005 (PMID: 15932098). This could make p-octopamine a potential biomarker for the consumption of these foods.
