DescriptionAstilbic acid, also known as astilbate, belongs to the class of organic compounds known as triterpenoids. These are terpene molecules containing six isoprene units. (4ar,6ar,6br,8r,8ar,10s,12ar,12br,14br)-8,10-dihydroxy-2,2,4a,6b,9,9,12a-heptamethyl-1,3,4,5,6,7,8,8a,10,11,12,12b,13,14b-tetradecahydropicene-6a-carboxylic acid is found in Astilbe chinensis, Astilbe grandis and Astilbe rubra. It was first documented in 2004 (PMID: 15301745). Based on a literature review a small amount of articles have been published on Astilbic acid (PMID: 21168540) (PMID: 16580200) (PMID: 15635157).
