DescriptionFarnesiferol A, also known as isobadrakemin or mogoltadin, belongs to the class of organic compounds known as coumarins and derivatives. These are polycyclic aromatic compounds containing a 1-benzopyran moiety with a ketone group at the C2 carbon atom (1-benzopyran-2-one). Farnesiferol A is an extremely weak basic (essentially neutral) compound (based on its pKa). Outside of the human body, Farnesiferol A has been detected, but not quantified in, green vegetables and herbs and spices. 7-[(6-hydroxy-5,5,8a-trimethyl-2-methylidene-hexahydro-1h-naphthalen-1-yl)methoxy]chromen-2-one is found in Dolichorrhiza persica, Ferula assa-foetida, Ferula loscosii and Ferula sumbul. This could make farnesiferol a a potential biomarker for the consumption of these foods.
