Description14-[5-(1,2-Dihydroxy-2-methylpropyl)-2-methoxyoxolan-3-yl]-9-hydroxy-2,6,6,10,15-pentamethyltetracyclo[8.7.0.0²,⁷.0¹¹,¹⁵]Heptadeca-3,11-dien-5-one belongs to the class of organic compounds known as limonoids. These are highly oxygenated, modified terpenoids with a prototypical structure either containing or derived from a precursor with a 4,4,8-trimethyl-17-furanylsteroid skeleton. All naturally occurring citrus limonoids contain a furan ring attached to the D-ring, at C-17, as well as oxygen containing functional groups at C-3, C-4, C-7, C-16 and C-17. 1-[5-(1,2-dihydroxy-2-methylpropyl)-2-methoxyoxolan-3-yl]-4-hydroxy-3b,6,6,9a,11a-pentamethyl-1h,2h,4h,5h,5ah,9bh,10h,11h-cyclopenta[a]phenanthren-7-one is found in Xylocarpus granatum. 14-[5-(1,2-Dihydroxy-2-methylpropyl)-2-methoxyoxolan-3-yl]-9-hydroxy-2,6,6,10,15-pentamethyltetracyclo[8.7.0.0²,⁷.0¹¹,¹⁵]Heptadeca-3,11-dien-5-one is an extremely weak basic (essentially neutral) compound (based on its pKa).
