Natural Product Identification
Common Name(2s,3s,4r,5r,6s)-4,5-bis(acetyloxy)-6-[4-({[ethoxy(sulfanyl)methylidene]amino}methyl)phenoxy]-2-methyloxan-3-yl acetate
DescriptionO-Ethyl-4-[(2',3',4'-tri-O-acetyl-alpha-L-rhamnosyloxy)benzyl]thiocarbamate, also known as (Z)-N-[(4-hydroxyphenyl)methyl]ethoxycarbothioamide 4’-(tri-acetylrhamnoside), belongs to the class of organic compounds known as phenolic glycosides. These are organic compounds containing a phenolic structure attached to a glycosyl moiety. Some examples of phenolic structures include lignans, and flavonoids. Among the sugar units found in natural glycosides are D-glucose, L-Fructose, and L rhamnose. O-Ethyl-4-[(2',3',4'-tri-O-acetyl-alpha-L-rhamnosyloxy)benzyl]thiocarbamate is an extremely weak basic (essentially neutral) compound (based on its pKa). Outside of the human body, O-Ethyl-4-[(2',3',4'-tri-O-acetyl-alpha-L-rhamnosyloxy)benzyl]thiocarbamate has been detected, but not quantified in, a few different foods, such as fats and oils, green vegetables, and herbs and spices. (2s,3s,4r,5r,6s)-4,5-bis(acetyloxy)-6-[4-({[ethoxy(sulfanyl)methylidene]amino}methyl)phenoxy]-2-methyloxan-3-yl acetate is found in Moringa oleifera. This could make O-ethyl-4-[(2',3',4'-tri-O-acetyl-alpha-L-rhamnosyloxy)benzyl]thiocarbamate a potential biomarker for the consumption of these foods.
