DescriptionArtonol A belongs to the class of organic compounds known as pyranoxanthones. These are organic aromatic compounds containing a pyran or a hydrogenated derivative fused to a xanthone ring system. Artonol A is an extremely weak basic (essentially neutral) compound (based on its pKa). Outside of the human body, Artonol A has been detected, but not quantified in, fruits. 11-hydroxy-2,2-dimethyl-8-(prop-1-en-2-yl)-8,9-dihydro-7h-1,5-dioxatetraphene-6,10-dione is found in Artocarpus altilis and Artocarpus elasticus. This could make artonol a a potential biomarker for the consumption of these foods.
