These are fatty acids with an aliphatic tail that contains between 13 and 21 carbon atoms (10Z,14E,16E)-10,14,16-Octadecatrien-12-ynoic acid is a very hydrophobic molecule, practically insoluble (in water), and relatively neutral. Outside of the human body, (10Z,14E,16E)-10,14,16-Octadecatrien-12-ynoic acid has been detected, but not quantified in, fruits. (10z,14e,16e)-octadeca-10,14,16-trien-12-ynoic acid is found in Ximenia americana. This could make (10Z,14E,16E)-10,14,16-octadecatrien-12-ynoic acid a potential biomarker for the consumption of these foods.
