Description(3S)-all-trans-3-hydroxyretinal belongs to the class of organic compounds known as retinoids. These are oxygenated derivatives of 3,7-dimethyl-1-(2,6,6-trimethylcyclohex-1-enyl)nona-1,3,5,7-tetraene and derivatives thereof. Thus, (3S)-all-trans-3-hydroxyretinal is considered to be an isoprenoid. (3s)-3-hydroxyretinal was first documented in 1994 (PMID: 8001586). Based on a literature review very few articles have been published on (3S)-all-trans-3-hydroxyretinal (PMID: 9826202).
