Common Name2-[(6,8-dihydroxy-2,7-dimethoxy-9-oxoxanthen-3-yl)oxy]-5-hydroxy-6-methyl-4-[(3,4,5-trihydroxy-6-methyloxan-2-yl)oxy]oxan-3-yl acetate
Description2-[(6,8-Dihydroxy-2,7-dimethoxy-9-oxo-9H-xanthen-3-yl)oxy]-5-hydroxy-6-methyl-4-[(3,4,5-trihydroxy-6-methyloxan-2-yl)oxy]oxan-3-yl acetate belongs to the class of organic compounds known as carotenes. These are a type of unsaturated hydrocarbons containing eight consecutive isoprene units. They are characterized by the presence of two end-groups (mostly cyclohexene rings, but also cyclopentene rings or acyclic groups) linked by a long branched alkyl chain. Carotenes belonging form a subgroup of the carotenoids family. 2-[(6,8-dihydroxy-2,7-dimethoxy-9-oxoxanthen-3-yl)oxy]-5-hydroxy-6-methyl-4-[(3,4,5-trihydroxy-6-methyloxan-2-yl)oxy]oxan-3-yl acetate is found in Polygala sibirica. 2-[(6,8-Dihydroxy-2,7-dimethoxy-9-oxo-9H-xanthen-3-yl)oxy]-5-hydroxy-6-methyl-4-[(3,4,5-trihydroxy-6-methyloxan-2-yl)oxy]oxan-3-yl acetate is an extremely weak basic (essentially neutral) compound (based on its pKa).
