Gamma butyrolactones are compounds containing a gamma butyrolactone moiety, which consists of an aliphatic five-member ring with four carbon atoms, one oxygen atom, and bears a ketone group on the carbon adjacent to the oxygen atom. 9-[2-(furan-3-yl)ethyl]-9,10,12-trimethyl-2-oxatricyclo[6.3.1.0⁴,¹²]dodec-4-en-3-one is found in Pulicaria salviifolia. 9-[2-(Furan-3-yl)ethyl]-9,10,12-trimethyl-2-oxatricyclo[6.3.1.0⁴,¹²]Dodec-4-en-3-one is an extremely weak basic (essentially neutral) compound (based on its pKa).
