These are saponins in which the aglycone moiety is a steroid. The steroidal aglycone is usually a spirostane, furostane, spirosolane, solanidane, or curcubitacin derivative. 18,19-dihydroxy-6-methoxy-7,9,13-trimethyl-6-(3-methyl-4-{[3,4,5-trihydroxy-6-(hydroxymethyl)oxan-2-yl]oxy}butyl)-15-{[3,4,5-trihydroxy-6-(hydroxymethyl)oxan-2-yl]oxy}-5-oxapentacyclo[10.8.0.0²,⁹.0⁴,⁸.0¹³,¹⁸]icosan-16-yl benzoate is found in Allium giganteum. 18,19-Dihydroxy-6-methoxy-7,9,13-trimethyl-6-(3-methyl-4-{[3,4,5-trihydroxy-6-(hydroxymethyl)oxan-2-yl]oxy}butyl)-15-{[3,4,5-trihydroxy-6-(hydroxymethyl)oxan-2-yl]oxy}-5-oxapentacyclo[10.8.0.0²,⁹.0⁴,⁸.0¹³,¹⁸]Icosan-16-yl benzoate is an extremely weak basic (essentially neutral) compound (based on its pKa).
