DescriptionTautomycetin belongs to the class of organic compounds known as sesquiterpenoids. These are terpenes with three consecutive isoprene units. 17-ethyl-4,8-dihydroxy-3,7,11,13-tetramethyl-6,15-dioxononadeca-16,18-dien-2-yl 3-hydroxy-3-(4-methyl-2,5-dioxofuran-3-yl)propanoate is found in Penicillium griseofulvum. Tautomycetin is an extremely weak basic (essentially neutral) compound (based on its pKa).
