Common Name4-hydroxycinnamoylmethane
Description(3E)-4-(4-hydroxyphenyl)but-3-en-2-one, also known as p-hydroxybenzalacetone or methyl p-hydroxycinnamyl ketone, belongs to the class of organic compounds known as hydroxycinnamic acids and derivatives. Hydroxycinnamic acids and derivatives are compounds containing an cinnamic acid (or a derivative thereof) where the benzene ring is hydroxylated (3E)-4-(4-hydroxyphenyl)but-3-en-2-one is an extremely weak basic (essentially neutral) compound (based on its pKa). 4-hydroxycinnamoylmethane is found in Alpinia roxburghii, Phlomis bovei, Scopalina ruetzleri and Scutellaria barbata. It is generated by cyp2b6, cyp2e1, and cyp3a4 enzymes via a p-hydroxylation-of-monosubstituted-benzene reaction.
