These are steroids carrying a hydroxyl group at the 18-position of the steroid backbone. 1-[9-hydroxy-3a-(hydroxymethyl)-5a,5b,8,8,11a-pentamethyl-hexadecahydrocyclopenta[a]chrysen-1-yl]ethanone is found in Melilotus messanensis. 1-[17-Hydroxy-5-(hydroxymethyl)-1,2,14,18,18-pentamethylpentacyclo[11.8.0.0²,¹⁰.0⁵,⁹.0¹⁴,¹⁹]Henicosan-8-yl]ethan-1-one is an extremely weak basic (essentially neutral) compound (based on its pKa).
