Harmala alkaloids are compounds with a structure based on harmaline, harmine, harmalol, harman or a derivative of those parents. These parents are beta-carbolines, consisting of a pyrimidine fused to the pyrrole moiety of an indole to form a pyrido[3,4-b]indole. 6-[(6-carboxy-4,5-dihydroxy-2-{[5-hydroxy-2-(4-hydroxy-3,5-dimethoxyphenyl)-4-oxochromen-7-yl]oxy}oxan-3-yl)oxy]-3,4-dihydroxy-5-{[3-(4-hydroxy-3,5-dimethoxyphenyl)prop-2-enoyl]oxy}oxane-2-carboxylic acid is found in Medicago sativa and Medicago truncatula. 6-[(6-Carboxy-4,5-dihydroxy-2-{[5-hydroxy-2-(4-hydroxy-3,5-dimethoxyphenyl)-4-oxo-4H-chromen-7-yl]oxy}oxan-3-yl)oxy]-3,4-dihydroxy-5-{[3-(4-hydroxy-3,5-dimethoxyphenyl)prop-2-enoyl]oxy}oxane-2-carboxylic acid is an extremely weak basic (essentially neutral) compound (based on its pKa).
