Natural Product Identification
Common Name2-(3,4-dimethoxyphenyl)-6-hydroxy-3,5,7,8-tetramethoxychromen-4-one
Description6-Hydroxy-3,3',4',5,7,8-hexamethoxyflavone belongs to the class of organic compounds known as 8-o-methylated flavonoids. These are flavonoids with methoxy groups attached to the C8 atom of the flavonoid backbone. 6-Hydroxy-3,3',4',5,7,8-hexamethoxyflavone is an extremely weak basic (essentially neutral) compound (based on its pKa). Outside of the human body, 6-Hydroxy-3,3',4',5,7,8-hexamethoxyflavone has been detected, but not quantified in, citrus. 2-(3,4-dimethoxyphenyl)-6-hydroxy-3,5,7,8-tetramethoxychromen-4-one is found in Citrus reticulata. This could make 6-hydroxy-3,3',4',5,7,8-hexamethoxyflavone a potential biomarker for the consumption of these foods.
