DescriptionArctigenic acid, also known as arctigenate, belongs to the class of organic compounds known as dibenzylbutane lignans. These are lignan compounds containing a 2,3-dibenzylbutane moiety. (2r,3r)-3-[(3,4-dimethoxyphenyl)methyl]-4-hydroxy-2-[(4-hydroxy-3-methoxyphenyl)methyl]butanoic acid is found in Arctium lappa. (2r,3r)-3-[(3,4-dimethoxyphenyl)methyl]-4-hydroxy-2-[(4-hydroxy-3-methoxyphenyl)methyl]butanoic acid was first documented in 2013 (PMID: 23519790). Based on a literature review a small amount of articles have been published on Arctigenic acid (PMID: 25636881) (PMID: 25274606) (PMID: 24434279).
