| Description | Asterogenol belongs to the class of organic compounds known as androgens and derivatives. These are 3-hydroxylated C19 steroid hormones. They are known to favor the development of masculine characteristics. They also show profound effects on scalp and body hair in humans. Thus, asterogenol is considered to be a steroid. (1s,3as,3bs,5s,5as,7s,9as,11as)-1-[(1r)-1-hydroxyethyl]-9a,11a-dimethyl-1h,2h,3h,3ah,3bh,4h,5h,5ah,6h,7h,8h,9h,11h-cyclopenta[a]phenanthrene-5,7-diol is found in Asterias forbesi and Asterias rubens. (1s,3as,3bs,5s,5as,7s,9as,11as)-1-[(1r)-1-hydroxyethyl]-9a,11a-dimethyl-1h,2h,3h,3ah,3bh,4h,5h,5ah,6h,7h,8h,9h,11h-cyclopenta[a]phenanthrene-5,7-diol was first documented in 1984 (PMID: 6537045). Based on a literature review very few articles have been published on Asterogenol. |
