DescriptionTriptohypol C, also known as dihydrocelastrol, belongs to the class of organic compounds known as phenanthrenes and derivatives. These are polycyclic compounds containing a phenanthrene moiety, which is a tricyclic aromatic compound with three non-linearly fused benzene. Triptohypol C is a secondary metabolite. Secondary metabolites are metabolically or physiologically non-essential metabolites that may serve a role as defense or signalling molecules. In some cases they are simply molecules that arise from the incomplete metabolism of other secondary metabolites. (2r,4as,6as,12bs,14as,14br)-10,11-dihydroxy-2,4a,6a,9,12b,14a-hexamethyl-3,4,5,6,8,13,14,14b-octahydro-1h-picene-2-carboxylic acid is found in Tripterygium hypoglaucum. (2r,4as,6as,12bs,14as,14br)-10,11-dihydroxy-2,4a,6a,9,12b,14a-hexamethyl-3,4,5,6,8,13,14,14b-octahydro-1h-picene-2-carboxylic acid was first documented in 2010 (PMID: 20167482). Based on a literature review a small amount of articles have been published on triptohypol C (PMID: 21570383) (PMID: 25139619).
