DescriptionAcetyl-caranine belongs to the class of organic compounds known as lycorine-type amaryllidaceae alkaloids. These are amaryllidaceae alkaloids compounds containing the lycorine skeleton, made up of a pyrrolo[d,e]phenanthridine ring system. 5,7-dioxa-12-azapentacyclo[10.6.1.0²,¹⁰.0⁴,⁸.0¹⁵,¹⁹]nonadeca-2,4(8),9,15-tetraen-18-yl acetate is found in Amaryllis belladonna and Ammocharis coranica. Acetyl-caranine is a very strong basic compound (based on its pKa).
