Natural Product Identification
Common Name2,3-dihydroxy-9-(4-hydroxy-3-methoxyphenyl)-2,3-dihydrophenalen-1-one
DescriptionMusanolone D belongs to the class of organic compounds known as phenylnaphthalenes. Phenylnaphthalenes are compounds containing a phenylnaphthalene skeleton, which consists of a naphthalene bound to a phenyl group. Musanolone D is an extremely weak basic (essentially neutral) compound (based on its pKa). Outside of the human body, Musanolone D has been detected, but not quantified in, fruits. This could make musanolone D a potential biomarker for the consumption of these foods.
