Common Named-mannopyranose 6-phosphate
DescriptionD-mannose 6-phosphate belongs to the class of organic compounds known as hexose phosphates. These are carbohydrate derivatives containing a hexose substituted by one or more phosphate groups. D-mannose 6-phosphate is an extremely weak basic (essentially neutral) compound (based on its pKa). D-mannose 6-phosphate may be a unique S. Cerevisiae (yeast) metabolite. In humans, D-mannose 6-phosphate is involved in fructose intolerance, hereditary. Outside of the human body, D-mannose 6-phosphate has been detected, but not quantified in, several different foods, such as acorns, nuts, persimmons, shallots, and hard wheats. This could make D-mannose 6-phosphate a potential biomarker for the consumption of these foods. d-mannopyranose 6-phosphate is found in Mycoplasma gallisepticum. d-mannopyranose 6-phosphate was first documented in 1977 (PMID: 908752).
