These are c28 steroids structurally characterized by an ergostane skeleton usually functionalized at carbons 1, 22 and 26 to form a lactone ring. 3-({1-[1-(3,4-dimethyl-5-oxo-2h-furan-2-yl)propan-2-yl]-11-hydroxy-3a,6,6,9a,11a-pentamethyl-4-oxo-1h,2h,3h,5h,5ah,7h,8h,9h,10h,11h-cyclopenta[a]phenanthren-7-yl}oxy)-3-oxopropanoic acid is found in Fomitopsis officinalis. Based on a literature review very few articles have been published on 3-({14-[1-(3,4-dimethyl-5-oxo-2,5-dihydrofuran-2-yl)propan-2-yl]-16-hydroxy-2,6,6,11,15-pentamethyl-9-oxotetracyclo[8.7.0.0²,⁷.0¹¹,¹⁵]Heptadec-1(10)-en-5-yl}oxy)-3-oxopropanoic acid.
