Naphthopyrans are compounds containing a pyran ring fused to a naphthalene moiety. Furan is a 6 membered-ring non-aromatic ring with five carbon and one oxygen atoms. Naphthalene is a polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon made up of two fused benzene rings. 7-(furan-3-yl)-10-hydroxy-9-methyl-6,16-dioxatetracyclo[8.7.0.0¹,¹⁴.0⁴,⁹]heptadeca-3,12-diene-5,15-dione is found in Salvia coccinea and Salvia plebeia. 7-(Furan-3-yl)-10-hydroxy-9-methyl-6,16-dioxatetracyclo[8.7.0.0¹,¹⁴.0⁴,⁹]Heptadeca-3,12-diene-5,15-dione is an extremely weak basic (essentially neutral) compound (based on its pKa).
