| Common Name | (13z)-astaxanthin |
|---|
| Description | 13-Cis-Astaxanthin belongs to the class of organic compounds known as xanthophylls. These are carotenoids containing an oxygenated carotene backbone. Carotenes are characterized by the presence of two end-groups (mostly cyclohexene rings, but also cyclopentene rings or acyclic groups) linked by a long branched alkyl chain. Carotenes belonging form a subgroup of the carotenoids family. Xanthophylls arise by oxygenation of the carotene backbone. (13z)-astaxanthin is found in Salmo salar. (13z)-astaxanthin was first documented in 2005 (PMID: 16302786). Based on a literature review a significant number of articles have been published on 13-cis-Astaxanthin (PMID: 32506706) (PMID: 30318616) (PMID: 18838798) (PMID: 18486137) (PMID: 15969489). |
