Clerodanes arise from labdanes by two methyl migrations. 4-[2-(furan-3-yl)ethyl]-3,4,8,8a-tetramethyl-1,3,4a,5-tetrahydronaphthalene-2,6-dione is found in Croton setiger. 4-[2-(Furan-3-yl)ethyl]-3,4,8,8a-tetramethyl-1,2,3,4,4a,5,6,8a-octahydronaphthalene-2,6-dione is an extremely weak basic (essentially neutral) compound (based on its pKa). |
