These are aromatic compounds that contain a p-xylenol moiety, which is a monocyclic benzene carrying exactly two methyl groups at the 1- and 4-positions, and at least one hydroxyl group. 2,4-dihydroxy-3,6-dimethylbenzaldehyde is found in Leptosphaeria maculans, Phaeosphaeria herpotrichoides, Hypomyces chrysospermus and Valsa ambiens. 2,4-Dihydroxy-3,6-dimethylbenzaldehyde is an extremely weak basic (essentially neutral) compound (based on its pKa). |
