Description | Alpha-Valerenol, also known as α-valerenol, belongs to the class of organic compounds known as sesquiterpenoids. These are terpenes with three consecutive isoprene units. Alpha-Valerenol is an extremely weak basic (essentially neutral) compound (based on its pKa). Outside of the human body, alpha-Valerenol has been detected, but not quantified in, a few different foods, such as fats and oils, herbs and spices, and tea. (2e)-3-(3,7-dimethyl-2,4,5,6,7,7a-hexahydro-1h-inden-4-yl)-2-methylprop-2-en-1-ol is found in Valeriana officinalis. It was first documented in 2000 (PMID: 11413487). This could make alpha-valerenol a potential biomarker for the consumption of these foods (PMID: 16902246) (PMID: 17374880) (PMID: 20044567). |
