Description2-Hydroxy-3-{[3,4,5-trihydroxy-6-(hydroxymethyl)oxan-2-yl]oxy}propyl 8-[4-oxo-5-(pent-2-en-1-yl)cyclopent-2-en-1-yl]octanoate belongs to the class of organic compounds known as prostaglandins and related compounds. These are unsaturated carboxylic acids consisting of a 20 carbon skeleton that also contains a five member ring, and are based upon the fatty acid arachidonic acid. 2-hydroxy-3-{[3,4,5-trihydroxy-6-(hydroxymethyl)oxan-2-yl]oxy}propyl 8-[4-oxo-5-(pent-2-en-1-yl)cyclopent-2-en-1-yl]octanoate is found in Ipomoea tricolor. 2-Hydroxy-3-{[3,4,5-trihydroxy-6-(hydroxymethyl)oxan-2-yl]oxy}propyl 8-[4-oxo-5-(pent-2-en-1-yl)cyclopent-2-en-1-yl]octanoate is an extremely weak basic (essentially neutral) compound (based on its pKa).
