These are homoisoflavonoids with a structure based on the chromanone system. Chromanone is a bicyclic compound consisting of a 3,4-dihydro-1-benzopyran, which bears a ketone group at the 4-position. 5-hydroxy-3-[(4-hydroxy-3-methoxyphenyl)methyl]-6,7-dimethoxy-2,3-dihydro-1-benzopyran-4-one is found in Schizocarphus nervosus. 5-Hydroxy-3-[(4-hydroxy-3-methoxyphenyl)methyl]-6,7-dimethoxy-3,4-dihydro-2H-1-benzopyran-4-one is an extremely weak basic (essentially neutral) compound (based on its pKa).
