| Description | Tragopogonsaponin K belongs to the class of organic compounds known as coumestans. These are polycyclic aromatic compounds containing a coumestan moiety, which consists of a benzoxole fused to a chromen-2-one to form 1-Benzoxolo[3,2-c]chromen-6-one. They are oxidation products of pterocarpan. Tragopogonsaponin K is an extremely weak basic (essentially neutral) compound (based on its pKa). Outside of the human body, Tragopogonsaponin K has been detected, but not quantified in, green vegetables. 5-hydroxy-3-{[(2e)-3-(4-hydroxyphenyl)prop-2-enoyl]oxy}-4-{[3,4,5-trihydroxy-6-(hydroxymethyl)oxan-2-yl]oxy}oxan-2-yl 5,10-dihydroxy-2,2,6a,6b,9,9,12a-heptamethyl-1,3,4,5,6,7,8,8a,10,11,12,12b,13,14b-tetradecahydropicene-4a-carboxylate is found in Tragopogon porrifolius. This could make tragopogonsaponin K a potential biomarker for the consumption of these foods. |
