DescriptionPlakortone B belongs to the class of organic compounds known as furofurans. These are organic compounds containing a two furan rings fused to each other. Furan is a five-membered aromatic ring with four carbon atoms and one oxygen atom. (3ar,5s,6ar)-5,6a-diethyl-5-[(1e,5e)-4-ethyl-2-methylocta-1,5-dien-1-yl]-dihydro-3h-furo[3,2-b]furan-2-one is found in Plakortis halichondrioides. (3ar,5s,6ar)-5,6a-diethyl-5-[(1e,5e)-4-ethyl-2-methylocta-1,5-dien-1-yl]-dihydro-3h-furo[3,2-b]furan-2-one was first documented in 2006 (PMID: 17078678). Based on a literature review a small amount of articles have been published on Plakortone B (PMID: 21491517) (PMID: 20432418).
