Description | Celacinnine belongs to the class of organic compounds known as macrolactams. These are cyclic amides of amino carboxylic acids, having a 1-azacycloalkan-2-one structure, or analogues having unsaturation or heteroatoms replacing one or more carbon atoms of the ring. They are nitrogen analogues (the a nitrogen atom replacing the o atom of the cyclic carboxylic acid group ) of the naturally occurring macrolides. Celacinnine is a secondary metabolite. Secondary metabolites are metabolically or physiologically non-essential metabolites that may serve a role as defense or signalling molecules. In some cases they are simply molecules that arise from the incomplete metabolism of other secondary metabolites. (2e)-1-[(8s)-6-hydroxy-8-phenyl-1,5,9-triazacyclotridec-5-en-1-yl]-3-phenylprop-2-en-1-one is found in Pleurostylia opposita and Tripterygium wilfordii. Based on a literature review a small amount of articles have been published on celacinnine. |
