These are diterpene lactones with a structure characterized by the presence of a gamma-lactone fused to a guaiane, forming 3,6,9-trimethyl-azuleno[4,5-b]furan-2-one or a derivative. (3ar,5as,9r,9ar,9br)-9-{[(3s,3as,6as,9as,9bs)-3-hydroxy-6,9-dimethylidene-2-oxo-octahydroazuleno[4,5-b]furan-3-yl]methyl}-5a,9-dimethyl-3-methylidene-hexahydro-3ah-naphtho[1,2-b]furan-2,6-dione is found in Saussurea costus. Based on a literature review very few articles have been published on (3aR,5aS,9R,9aR,9bR)-9-{[(3S,3aS,6aS,9aS,9bS)-3-hydroxy-6,9-dimethylidene-2-oxo-dodecahydroazuleno[4,5-b]furan-3-yl]methyl}-5a,9-dimethyl-3-methylidene-dodecahydronaphtho[1,2-b]furan-2,6-dione. |
