DescriptionPetunioside D belongs to the class of organic compounds known as steroidal glycosides. These are sterol lipids containing a carbohydrate moiety glycosidically linked to the steroid skeleton. (1r,3as,3bs,4r,9ar,9bs,11ar)-1-[(2s,3r,5r)-5,6-dihydroxy-5,6-dimethyl-3-{[(2r,3r,4s,5s,6r)-3,4,5-trihydroxy-6-(hydroxymethyl)oxan-2-yl]oxy}heptan-2-yl]-4-hydroxy-9a,11a-dimethyl-1h,2h,3h,3ah,3bh,4h,5h,9bh,10h,11h-cyclopenta[a]phenanthren-7-one is found in Petunia hybrida. (1r,3as,3bs,4r,9ar,9bs,11ar)-1-[(2s,3r,5r)-5,6-dihydroxy-5,6-dimethyl-3-{[(2r,3r,4s,5s,6r)-3,4,5-trihydroxy-6-(hydroxymethyl)oxan-2-yl]oxy}heptan-2-yl]-4-hydroxy-9a,11a-dimethyl-1h,2h,3h,3ah,3bh,4h,5h,9bh,10h,11h-cyclopenta[a]phenanthren-7-one was first documented in 1994 (PMID: 7765367). Based on a literature review very few articles have been published on Petunioside D.
