| Common Name | 11-hydroxy-2,5,6,10,10,14,21-heptamethyl-23-oxahexacyclo[19.2.1.0²,¹⁹.0⁵,¹⁸.0⁶,¹⁵.0⁹,¹⁴]tetracos-17-en-22-one |

| Description | 2-O-Caffeoylarbutin belongs to the class of organic compounds known as phenolic glycosides. These are organic compounds containing a phenolic structure attached to a glycosyl moiety. Some examples of phenolic structures include lignans, and flavonoids. Among the sugar units found in natural glycosides are D-glucose, L-Fructose, and L rhamnose. 2-O-Caffeoylarbutin is an extremely weak basic (essentially neutral) compound (based on its pKa). Outside of the human body, 2-O-Caffeoylarbutin has been detected, but not quantified in, fruits. 11-hydroxy-2,5,6,10,10,14,21-heptamethyl-23-oxahexacyclo[19.2.1.0²,¹⁹.0⁵,¹⁸.0⁶,¹⁵.0⁹,¹⁴]tetracos-17-en-22-one is found in Abrus precatorius, Celastrus hypoleucus, Euonymus alatus, Plenckia populnea and Tripterygium wilfordii. This could make 2-O-caffeoylarbutin a potential biomarker for the consumption of these foods. |
