Common Name15,16-dihydroxy-4-methoxy-2,6,17-trimethyl-14-methylidene-10-oxatetracyclo[7.7.1.0²,⁷.0¹³,¹⁷]heptadec-4-ene-3,11-dione
Description12Alpha-Hydroxy-13,18-dehydroparain belongs to the class of organic compounds known as quassinoids. These are a group of compounds chemically degraded from triterpenes. According to their basic skeleton, quassinoids are categorized into five distinct groups, C-18, C-19, C-20, C-22 and C-25 types. The C-20 quassinoids can be further classified into two types, tetracyclic and the pentacyclic. The tetracyclic variety does not have oxygenation at C-20, while the pentacyclic quassinoids possess additional oxygenation at C-20 that allows for the formation of an additional ring. 12Alpha-Hydroxy-13,18-dehydroparain is an extremely weak basic (essentially neutral) compound (based on its pKa). 15,16-dihydroxy-4-methoxy-2,6,17-trimethyl-14-methylidene-10-oxatetracyclo[7.7.1.0²,⁷.0¹³,¹⁷]heptadec-4-ene-3,11-dione is found in Quassia amara. 12Alpha-Hydroxy-13,18-dehydroparain is a constituent of Quassia amara (Surinam quassia).
