Description2-Phenylethyl octanoate, also known as fema 3222 or phenethyl caprylate, belongs to the class of organic compounds known as fatty acid esters. These are carboxylic ester derivatives of a fatty acid. 2-Phenylethyl octanoate is an extremely weak basic (essentially neutral) compound (based on its pKa). 2-Phenylethyl octanoate is a sweet, cocoa, and fruity tasting compound. Outside of the human body, 2-Phenylethyl octanoate has been detected, but not quantified in, alcoholic beverages. phenethyl octanoate is found in Tordylium apulum. This could make 2-phenylethyl octanoate a potential biomarker for the consumption of these foods.
