| Description | 4,14-Dimethylergosta-8,25-dien-3-ol belongs to the class of organic compounds known as ergosterols and derivatives. These are steroids containing ergosta-5,7,22-trien-3beta-ol or a derivative thereof, which is based on the 3beta-hydroxylated ergostane skeleton. 4,14-Dimethylergosta-8,25-dien-3-ol is an extremely weak basic (essentially neutral) compound (based on its pKa). Outside of the human body, 4,14-dimethylergosta-8,25-dien-3-ol has been detected, but not quantified in, fruits. 1-(5,6-dimethylhept-6-en-2-yl)-3a,6,9a,11a-tetramethyl-1h,2h,3h,4h,5h,5ah,6h,7h,8h,9h,10h,11h-cyclopenta[a]phenanthren-7-ol is found in Musa paradisiaca. This could make 4,14-dimethylergosta-8,25-dien-3-ol a potential biomarker for the consumption of these foods. |
