DescriptionHerbalbin belongs to the class of organic compounds known as eudesmanolides, secoeudesmanolides, and derivatives. These are terpenoids with a structure based on the eudesmanolide (a 3,5a,9-trimethyl-naphtho[1,2-b]furan-2-one derivative) or secoeudesmanolide (a 3,6-dimethyl-5-(pentan-2-yl)-1-benzofuran-2-one derivative) skeleton. (1s,2s,5s,6s,9r,10s,12r,14s)-10-hydroxy-5,9,14-trimethyl-3,13-dioxatetracyclo[7.5.0.0²,⁶.0¹²,¹⁴]tetradecan-4-one is found in Artemisia herba-alba. (1s,2s,5s,6s,9r,10s,12r,14s)-10-hydroxy-5,9,14-trimethyl-3,13-dioxatetracyclo[7.5.0.0²,⁶.0¹²,¹⁴]tetradecan-4-one was first documented in 2012 (PMID: 23755405). Based on a literature review very few articles have been published on Herbalbin.
