Description(4E)-2-[2-(2,5,5,8a-tetramethyl-3,4,4a,5,6,7,8,8a-octahydronaphthalen-1-yl)ethyl]-5-(2-hydroxy-5-oxo-2,5-dihydrofuran-3-yl)penta-2,4-dienal belongs to the class of organic compounds known as diterpene lactones. (4e)-2-[2-(2,5,5,8a-tetramethyl-3,4,4a,6,7,8-hexahydronaphthalen-1-yl)ethyl]-5-(2-hydroxy-5-oxo-2h-furan-3-yl)penta-2,4-dienal is found in Luffariella geometrica. These are diterpenoids containing a lactone moiety (4E)-2-[2-(2,5,5,8a-tetramethyl-3,4,4a,5,6,7,8,8a-octahydronaphthalen-1-yl)ethyl]-5-(2-hydroxy-5-oxo-2,5-dihydrofuran-3-yl)penta-2,4-dienal is an extremely weak basic (essentially neutral) compound (based on its pKa).
