| Description | Cubebinin belongs to the class of organic compounds known as dibenzylbutyrolactols. These are lignan compounds containing a 3,4-dibenzyloxolan-2-ol moiety. Cubebinin is an extremely weak basic (essentially neutral) compound (based on its pKa). Outside of the human body, Cubebinin has been detected, but not quantified in, herbs and spices. 3,4-bis[(3,4,5-trimethoxyphenyl)methyl]oxolan-2-ol is found in Piper cubeba and Piper guineense. This could make cubebinin a potential biomarker for the consumption of these foods. |
