These are homoisoflavonoids with a structure based on the chromanone system. Chromanone is a bicyclic compound consisting of a 3,4-dihydro-1-benzopyran, which bears a ketone group at the 4-position. 3-(2h-1,3-benzodioxol-5-ylmethyl)-5-methoxy-6-methyl-4-oxo-7-{[3,4,5-trihydroxy-6-(hydroxymethyl)oxan-2-yl]oxy}-2,3-dihydro-1-benzopyran-8-carbaldehyde is found in Ophiopogon japonicus. 3-[(2H-1,3-benzodioxol-5-yl)methyl]-5-methoxy-6-methyl-4-oxo-7-{[3,4,5-trihydroxy-6-(hydroxymethyl)oxan-2-yl]oxy}-3,4-dihydro-2H-1-benzopyran-8-carbaldehyde is an extremely weak basic (essentially neutral) compound (based on its pKa).
