These are alkaloids with a structure characterized by the presence of both an isoquinoline and a benzoquinolizidine nuclei. 1-({3-ethyl-10-hydroxy-9-methoxy-1h,2h,3h,4h,6h,7h,11bh-pyrido[2,1-a]isoquinolin-2-yl}methyl)-7-methoxy-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroisoquinolin-6-ol is found in Alangium longiflorum and Carapichea ipecacuanha. 1-({3-Ethyl-10-hydroxy-9-methoxy-1H,2H,3H,4H,6H,7H,11bH-pyrido[2,1-a]isoquinolin-2-yl}methyl)-7-methoxy-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroisoquinolin-6-ol is a very strong basic compound (based on its pKa).
