These are sterol lipids with a structure based on the stigmastane skeleton, which consists of a cholestane moiety bearing an ethyl group at the carbon atom C24. 1-(5-hydroxy-5-isopropylhept-6-en-2-yl)-9a,11a-dimethyl-1h,2h,3h,3ah,3bh,4h,6h,7h,8h,9h,9bh,10h,11h-cyclopenta[a]phenanthren-7-ol is found in Cremanthodium discoideum, Cydonia oblonga, Dictyota dichotoma, Eisenia bicyclis, Ulva linza, Lessonia nigrescens, Strychnos spinosa, Tridax procumbens, Tydemania expeditionis, Undaria pinnatifida and Xestospongia testudinaria. 14-[5-Hydroxy-5-(propan-2-yl)hept-6-en-2-yl]-2,15-dimethyltetracyclo[8.7.0.0²,⁷.0¹¹,¹⁵]Heptadec-7-en-5-ol is an extremely weak basic (essentially neutral) compound (based on its pKa).
